Zalakaros is in the south - western part of Hungary, in the Balaton Tourist Region, on the verge of Zala Hills. Zala Hills are the characteristic environment of Zalakaros, which lies in the valleys and hills of an area with the most rainfall. The weather is mild, wet but well-balanced with an ave age temperature of 10 C°.

 

By road Zalakaros can be reached from many different directions. 7 km from the town, M7 (which passes Zalakomár at E71) takes you to the capital, which is 180 km north, or to the south border of the country, through Nagykanizsa. To the western border you should take roads 75 or 76 through Zalaegerszeg. Lake Balaton lies 20 km from the town, you can approach it through either Balatonszentgyörgy or Keszthely. By rail, take the train to Nagykanizsa or Zalakomár, from the railway station of Zalakomár there is a scheduled coach service to Zalakararos. There are train services on the Sopron-Szombathely-Nagykanizsa and Pécs-Kaposvár-Nagykanizsa lines as well. The scheduled coach services provide direct connection to Budapest and a number of other towns all around the year. The nearest airport is in Sármellék, which airport is suitable not only for landing small private and sports planes but also passenger planes. Balaton Airport takes charter flights primary from Germany and Russia.
